You know how it is when your family members forward you email jokes, poems, sayings, etc. about moms and clog up your inbox? It’s not that I don’t love all of this stuff or that I don’t like to laugh, but often I just don’t have the time to read all of them.
Well, today was different. I opened an email that my sister sent to me and took the time to watch the video that was included and I was glad that I did! This video pretty well sums up a lot of what life holds for us moms. It’s quite funny and only a few minutes long so take a well deserved break and watch it and find out what you don’t want to sound like when you’re talking to your kids!

Enjoy!

So, I was out doing a little shopping this morning to pick up a birthday present and I found a great sale going on that I want to share with you. It reminded me of the importance of nurturing ourselves and as you set your resolutions or commitments for the new year I want you to put loving and nurturing yourself at the top of the list! I’m here to tell you that you can’t wait around for someone else to do it for you. It has to start with you!
So what do I mean by that? Well, the “L” in Self of Self Centered Moms stands for “Loved”. We all want to be loved, in fact that is probably the biggest want for everyone on the planet! We just don’t allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to express it. The key to feeling loved though begins with Read all »

Are you one of those moms who is vowing to get into better shape by starting your new year off with smarter food choices and more trips to the gym? The start of a new year typically brings with it lots of intentions for new starts and healthier living is one of the more common ones. After all of the treats of Halloween, the turkey of Thanksgiving and the trimmings of Christmas most of us are ready to get back into our routines and “turn” it up on a new way of eating. Even though the days are still dark, wet and cold, January reminds us that we’ll be pulling out the shorts and bikinis before we know it and we’d better get our bods ready.
Focusing on your health is one of the best gifts that you can give to yourself as a Self Centered Mom. Remember it’s all about taking care of yourself and what better way to begin than by eating right and exercising. Most of the time, we moms Read all »

One of my favorite things to do is to create fun memories associated with holidays. It doesn’t matter which holiday it is, I just think of ideas that can make the holiday more fun for my daughters and me. It then becomes a new tradition for us and gives us something to look forward to the next year. The great thing about this for my kids is that they are forming fond memories of their childhood and will likely carry some of these activities forward to share with their own children some day.
For the Christmas season, one of our traditions that we began about four years ago is driving to the mountains to cut down our Christmas tree. It’s just less than a two hour drive and we make the whole thing fun. My daughters bring some activities to do in the car and this year it was Mad Libs with a Christmas flair. The real excitement began though as we approached our destination and found Read all »

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the holiday season is officially in full swing! I didn’t venture out for any shopping on Black Friday, but I have no doubt that the stores were busy despite the financial state of many families in the US. The holiday season can add a load of additional stress to our lives with the addition of gift buying, family gatherings, holiday parties, children’s performances, teacher gifts and home decorating, just to name a few. It’s especially important to take some additional nurturing time for ourselves during this season and time just to slow down and “be”.
7 Tips for Surviving the Holidays
1. Donate sooner rather than later
With the addition of new gifts during the holidays we sometimes wonder where we’re going to put all of the new “stuff”. At our house, Read all »

I’m currently in Los Angeles at Alexandria Brown’s Online Success Blueprint Workshop. This is her last ever and it’s my first time attending so I’m very excited to be here. Today was the first day and I learned a lot of new tips for bringing my message to more overwhelmed moms. I love learning new things and I continue to educate myself both personally and professionally. I feel that having a continuing education program for myself keeps my mind stimulated and me young and motivated. What about you?
Do you continue to educate yourself and learn new things even though you are no longer in school? I think that it’s a shame that Americans spend so much time in front of the TV. I know that as moms we are typically exhausted by the end of the day, and Read all »

I love the fall season with the beautiful colors of the changing leaves in reds, oranges and yellows, bright orange pumpkins on the porches and a chill in the air. I love the crisp apples of the season and the end of the sweet corn and tomatoes of summer. The talk amongst the kids is nothing other than “what are you going to be for halloween”.
My kids have “fall break” every year from school so that means this whole week off. They celebrated Halloween last Thursday at school with the annual parade of costumes and then parties in the classrooms. They always look forward to all of the Halloween treats and it’s fun to see what the parents have come up with each year. I opted for Rice Krispie Treats and while I wanted to make them into round pumpkins or add some food coloring to make them either black or orange, I found that time got the best of me and I opted for the typical plain ones.
So, if you still have Halloween parties ahead of you or just want to make some special treats for you kids or the neighborhoods kids check out Read all »

As mothers, we are constantly giving. We give to our children probably more than anyone. We also give to our spouse and to our family as a whole. We often give to our communities, either through volunteering with local organizations or by volunteering in churches or our children’s schools. So, giving is such a part of who we are as women and as mothers. But when something is given to us, do we practice the art of receiving?
The art of receiving can be more complex than we think. We get so used to doing for others that when someone does for us or gives to us, we are sometimes unsure of how to open up and let it come in. Have you ever had someone compliment you on something you’ve done or something that you’re wearing and you reply with, “oh, it’s really nothing” or “oh, this old top? I’ve had it forever.” When we reply in ways such as these, we are not “receiving” the gift that is being given. This is likely due to us feeling uncomfortable that someone is giving to us. We don’t know how to receive it.
Our children love to give to us. As soon as they are able, Read all »

Today I attended my local BNI (Business Networking International) Chapter meeting, which I highly recommend if you are building a business and/or looking for referrals. It was a special visitors day so there were a lot of prospective members in attendance that are not usually there. It was fun to meet new people and find out what they do.
Over the course of the 90 minutes that I was there I interacted with three different gentlemen who provided me with positive feedback regarding my business concept of Self Centered Moms. They even inquired about the possibility of Self Centered Dads because they were feeling like they would like to be included in the concept. They explained that they would like to put some attention on themselves. I assurred them that I am a BIG proponent of Self Centered Dads and mentioned the possibility of that phase of the business coming in the future.
Later in the day, I was having a conversation with a male client who questioned Read all »
